Portals & Passageways Exhibit Review

My Portals and Passageways exhibit wrapped up a few months ago. It took a while but I finally reviewed and edited a video of the event.

This exhibit provided the opportunity to refresh myself with the exhibition process, from completing the application, choosing and submitting photos to choosing the finished pieces to display. I chose this body of work as my re-entry into exhibiting because I had shown it in the past. The unexpected curveball happened when I learned that what was intended to be a shared exhibit, between myself and another artist, turned into a solo exhibit.

That is when I proposed that the exhibit include sketches, studies and my sketchbooks as well as an interactive component. Personally, I enjoy exhibits that include an artists’ process. It can help viewers understand how an artist moves from idea to finished concept. The interactive component asked viewers to respond to the exhibit by writing an answer to a simple question and pinning their response on a corkboard. My intention is to take those responses and use them to create one or more pieces of art.

Now that the Portals exhibit has concluded, the paintings and drawings have been repacked or rehung in my studio, I’m focusing on my upcoming November exhibit. The November exhibit will be in a shared space with two other artists who I do not know. I will be showing a brand new body of work that is completely different from Portals and Passageways. In an upcoming post, I’ll share how this new body of work came about.

In the meantime, enjoy the video of the Portals and Passageways exhibit.
