Answers to Frequent Questions

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a holistic healing system. It is a Japanese technique for relaxation and releasing tension that also promotes healing and a sense of well-being.

What is a Reiki Practitioner?

A Reiki practitioner is someone who has received training from a Reiki Master. They undergo a process called an “attunement” or an initiation. This attunes them to the unique energetic vibrations of the Reiki healing energy.

How is Reiki performed?

A Reiki session is performed while lying down on a massage table or sitting in a chair. The client is fully clothed. The practitioner gently places his/her hands on, or near, specific energy pathways of the body, in a sequence of positions.

What can I expect during a session?

As Reiki energy flows, you may feel warmth, coolness, a gentle tingling or deep vibration; or deep relaxation and a sense of well-being. Some people find that their body shakes or their arms or legs suddenly jerk. These reactions are quite normal and indicate that Reiki is breaking through energy blockages.

Reiki balances and works on four levels-physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Each person receives exactly what he/she needs at that time.

How can Reiki help me?

Reiki is a healing process that anyone can benefit from. In addition to relaxation and a sense of well-being, Reiki can promote a reduction in anxiety, muscle tension, pain, and nausea. It can bring help and comfort to people suffering from a range of conditions. Reiki is not regarded as a cure for such conditions.

Reiki can support and enhance other forms of treatment, including conventional medical treatment and alternative or complimentary therapies.

Reiki is not intended to be a substitute for the medical expertise and advice of your primary health care provider.
